For the final episode we traveled to Kelowna and did a PG session with the first Peak Performance Project winners, We Are The City. This was a lot of fun to set up. We had a wall of amps that we stacked about 8 feet tall by 10 feet wide. All different kinds of amps and it looked fucking awesome. This was the first event where the band didn’t actually play any instruments. Plugged into the amps were about 20 really shitty keyboards, like the ones you got to play with when you were a kid. There was a grand piano, people whacking 2×4’s and playing percussion on scrapyard metal....

We travelled to Victoria, BC and did a Playground session with local motown band The Chantrelles. This was one of the biggest productions yet instrument wise. 5 keyboards, 30 singers, 4 timpanis, 3 electric guitars, vibraphone and even tubular bells. There’s probably even more but check out the video to see what I missed. A challenging mix to say the least but it always turns out in the end. I gave this one an old school sound to fit it’s motown character. Music Video Full...

After we finished up in Edmonton we rented vans and drove a few hours south to Calgary to produce PGCGY#8 with The Dojo Workhorse. We set up shop in an art gallery downtown and through a New Years party in May. Everybody dressed up like it was January 31st and probably drank even more thanks to the free beer supplied at every event. We had a full band with two guitars, drums, bass, keys and harmonica with lots of vocal harmonies. The audience was in charge of singing and humming, playing the melodica, shaking, boom whacking and even tap dancing. This was really fun to mix because there was a...

Back in May the Playground team hopped on a plane to Edmonton to put on the seventh installment of Playground with Shout Out Out Out Out. We had a big open hanger style garage that has been converted into an artistic fashion hub of clothing and artwork of all mediums. We rented pretty much every tom drum in Edmonton which was about 60 or so. There were over 10 synthesizers and a choir of vocoded singers. This was by far our biggest production of sound, lighting and camera rigs. The result is amazing and the people in the audience had one of the most unique music experiences. Maybe ever! The...

I started jamming more frequently with a couple friends in Vancouver that have been playing together for a number of years. They call themselves One Kingdom. Jeff Child and Jesse Bentley both sing, write, play guitar and bass. When Jesse is playing guitar and singing lead, Jeff is grooving on the bass and singing harmonies. Then after a few tracks they switch roles giving the set time to breathe while keeping the audience intrigued. It’s a cool blend of catchy pop, folk and reggae with great harmonies and groove. After a bunch of pub shows we were starting to get pretty tight. With an...

We had a percussion section of shakers, two 40 person choirs, about 8 snare and floor tom drummers, two keyboards, a saxophone, trumpet, a couple electric guitars, lead and back up vox and of course the harmonica. It was a challenge getting it all setup on time but the end result looks and sounds...

My good friend Zachary Stevenson has been performing in all kinds of musicals for the last few years. This past May we headed down to Fadermaster Studio in Vancouver to track his band comprising of Jeremy Homes (bass), Todd Bifford (drums), Scott Smith (guitars) and Ben Kunder (vocal).
